Tristan Honsinger and Joel Grip duo
Tristan Honsinger - cello
Joel Grip - contrebasse
It is physical. It is a dance. There is an unknown music. Hidden, to be discovered. Deciphered. There is a past. There is now, and there is a coming. And there is something else. Timeless. Out of time. Swing. There are changes. Time no changes. There are two spines. Backbones of improvisation. And a vast chatter. There is the known. And the to be known. There are two. Human beings? Musical instruments? Mouths? It is physical. It is dance. There is known music not known to our ears.
Tristan Honsinger is pioneer of what we recognize as European Improvised Music and Free Jazz. As a dancer and verbal actor he takes the genres out of genre. He has always been pushing the boundaries with his ecstatic and vibrant energy. As a fellow musician friend of the origins of the Dutch, French, English and German avant garde scenes he has made landmark music with Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Misha Mengelberg, Evan Parker, Sven-Åke Johansson, Jean-Jacques Avenel and Marten van Regeteren Altena to name a few. He has also been part of various constellations of Cecil Taylors groups. He is now leading his own ensemble called Hopscotch.
Joel Grip continues to schlepp his double bass around the globe as if it was the ax that chops down the branch he is sitting on. A constant down-fall of music establishing a moist ground for a coming backlash of woodpeckers making those guts vibrate the way you want it. Umlaut, Umlicht and Umdicht are his ambiguous mobile homes under constant construction. Active in the groups اسم, Peeping Tom, Mirror Mind Rose, Ahmed, Borel Grip duo, Je Suis! and наказание to name a few.
